We shall have dessert

Walking west from Parliament Street

a small thin brown-skinned woman,

wrapped in brightly patterned cloth

carefully foot-after-foot walking,

toothy grin, eyes shining,

black hair long beneath a colourful scarf

hands cradling

a cluster of

(her eyes watching her hands,

brown hands cupping, purple juice dripping)

carefully cradling,

picked fresh

as if from a nest

in a nearby tree —

a handful

of

ripe mulberries!
