Through the Northwest Passage

In the summer of 2014, I took my second journey through the Northwest Passage with Adventure Canada, as a Zodiac driver, musician and host.

We travelled 2500 nautical miles from Cambridge Bay, Nunavut to Kangerlussuaq, Greenland aboard the Russian vessel Akademik Sergei Vavilov.

Highlights include visits to the Franklin graves at Beechey Island, the transit of Bellot Strait, a Zodiac cruise beneath the bird cliffs of Prince Leopold Island; the extraordinary beauty of Icy Arm Fiord and Karrat Fiord, and the stunning Jakobshavn Icefiord in Ilullisat, Greenland—source of 80 per cent of the icebergs in the North Atlantic.

It was an adventure beyond words, but this video from photographer Michelle Valberg comes as close as anything could to conveying the transcendent qualities of the journey.

Ah, for just one time…
