Raven Kanatakta on the legacy of Willie Dunn

The new Willie Dunn compilation LP, Creation Never Sleeps, Creation Never dies is a gorgeous piece of work.

Light in the Attic Records has once again done a stellar job, just as they did with the Native North America: Volume 1 compilation that earned a Grammy nomination in 2014. That compilation is where I first heard the voice of the late Mi’kmaq singer-songwriter, artist and film-maker Willie Dunn.

Willie died in 2013, and it is a crying shame that he was not better known in the mainstream during his lifetime. But Raven Kanatakta of Digging Roots knew Willie all his life, and played his first professional gig (and countless others!) with Willie. Raven was kind enough to share his personal memories of Willie Dunn with me on air.
