What an absolute thrill it was to host and play the Kingsville Music Festival for the first time — on their tenth anniversary, no less! A classic small festival on a charming site with a great vibe.
I love the way it came about, as well. I’d first met John and Michelle Law when I was hosting the Woodshed Sessions at Roots Music Canada. I really enjoyed their music and our conversation, and when I heard they’d started a festival I was sure it would be a winner. That belief was backed up by the reports of everyone I met who played there.
Last year at Cultivate, just by fluke, it turned out my tenting site was right next to John and Michelle, who were up for the weekend to check out the fest. We renewed acquaintances, they heard me host the campfire and the mainstage, and whaddya know… I got an invitation to Kingsville.
As it turned out, it really felt like a ‘fit’ at Kingsville. I will be back again next year, at John & Michelle’s invitation, and I really look forward to another wonderful weekend at Kingsville Music Festival.
