“What’s with the ukulele, anyway?”

I’ve been performing on the uke for over 8 years, and I’ve enjoyed being part of the instrument’s revival in Canada. I’ve played the uke with The McFlies since 2006. I co-founded the popular Corktown Ukulele Jam in 2009, and helped establish that community. I’m still a proud member and frequent guest host.
Shows
I do many solo performances featuring original songs and classics played on an ever-changing collection of funky ukuleles. I’ve played uke at prestigious folk festivals including Mariposa Folk Festival, Lunenburg Folk Harbour and Summerfolk Music and Crafts Festival. I’ve had the privilege of sharing the stage with the likes of Jake Shimabukuro, James Hill, Manitoba Hal and Ralph Shaw.
Media
My work as a ukulele player, performer and community-builder has been featured on CBC radio’s The Gospel According to Uke and by CBC Newsworld’s Weekend Scene, Newstalk 1010, City News, The Toronto Star, Global News, and The National Post among other outlets.
Workshops
I have developed ukulele workshops for both beginner, and intermediate uke players. Based on the traditional notion of music as a shared activity, my workshops combine history, basic skills, and group playing in a very dynamic format.
These workshops at have proven successful at diverse venues, including festivals, libraries, classrooms and music stores. I can even do unplugged, outdoor workshops in the woods!
Regardless of the setting, I will guarantee getting a crowd of people to play and sing a song together within a one hour workshop.
Each presentation is customized for its setting, and workshops can be presented either with, or without electronic visual aids depending on the situation. If need be, I can also provide ukuleles for some or all of the attendees.
