This is my son, Jasper, in a pensive moment at the Port Hope bandshell. With its wide, wooden floors and starry concrete dome, the classic concert venue makes a perfect place to play on a Sunday afternoon.
So he’s a boy in his element: playful, curious, thoughtful. And yet when I look into the space of this picture I see so much more.
Like the boy I once was, I still stand beneath a starry dome, having passed through a door that now seems too small for returning.
I pray that I may remain as playful, curious and thoughtful as my boy, as I play out my part on this earthly stage.
A matching train hat and coveralls would be nice, too.
