She’s also done the supergroup thing, tearing up the trail with fellow East Coasters Damhnait Doyle and Tara MacLean as Shaye, earning a Juno nomination for Single of the Year for “Happy Baby” along the way.
And she’s done a bunch of other things – TV host, radio personality, ECMA award-winning performer – but until now, the one thing Kim Stockwood hadn’t done was return to her roots in Newfoundland songcraft.
We reviewed back to the water —the record that marked that return— and loved it. Kim plumbs the depths of Newfoundland’s rich songwriting tradition on this album, in a way that brings new life to great old material. In the process she seems to have turned a corner in her own career, one that’s well worthy of a conversation.
So it was a pleasure to welcome Kim Stockwood to the Woodshed for an up-close and personal discussion of the road from there, to here, and back again.
